"No matter how you may excel in the art of Karate, and in your scholastic endeavors, nothing is more important than your behavior and your humanity as observed in daily life."
~ Gichin Funakoshi

(Gichin Funakoshi is considered to be the father of modern karate-do and the founder of Shotokan Karate. One of Funakoshi's most noted students was Masutatsu Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin Karate. Mr. Funakoshi was responsible for spreading karate to Japan and subsequently around the world.)

The Bible puts it this way:

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." (James 1:27)

And:

"Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD." (Leviticus 19:18)

A lawyer asked Jesus: "Which commandment is the greatest of all?" Jesus answered from the Old Testament: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength." Jesus added a second command, that we must love our neighbor as ourself. Then he explained that every other law of God was based on these two laws.

Material things are not the most important things in life. Self-gain is not the most important thing. Relationships are the most important thing. First, relationship with God. Second, relationship with other people.
